Why Join?

The BMF is an influential trade association that represents the majority of businesses (merchants, distributors, suppliers and service providers) operating in the building materials sector across the UK and Ireland. It provides a wide range of member services including Training, Networking, Business Support, Market Information and Political Influence.

Who Can Join?

BMF membership is open to all businesses operating within the building materials supply chain in the UK and Ireland. Members include product manufacturers, service providers, builders’ merchants, plumbing & heating merchants, timber merchants and other merchants who distribute building materials, home improvement products, renewable energy equipment and civils & drainage systems. BMF members range from large national organisations, regional independents and buying groups, to SME merchant, supplier and service businesses.

What is the process for joining?

BMF membership is open to all businesses operating within the building materials supply chain in the UK and Ireland. To enquire further, prospective Merchant members should contact the relevant BMF Regional manager for their geographic area and prospective Supplier/Service members should contact Oz Bham ([email protected]).

What is the 'must have' criteria that a merchant must have in place to be considered for a membership?

A merchant must have a minimum annual turnover of £250,000 or higher and a substantial portion should be from ex-stock sales to the trade. You must also have a minimum of 2 years trading accounts. To check what other criteria is needed see the Joining Form or contact your Regional Manager.

What is the 'must have' criteria that a supplier must have in place to be considered for membership?

You should be a manufacturer of goods used in the construction industry, or be an extractor of bulk materials used in the industry. You must have a minimum of 2 years trading accounts, and you will be expected to pursue an acceptable merchant trading policy, with preferential terms offered for stockholding merchants.
