BMF Civils & Drainage Forum Workshop

BMF Civils & Drainage Forum Workshop
The Forum programme will cover a range of topics that we feel would be top of most Civils and Drainage Directors'/Managers' minds. The event is organised by John Stephenson and is open to both Suppliers and Merchants.

The Forum will be chaired by Nick Boyle, Civils Development Director at Jewson.

Agenda

The forum will be interactive and we agreed to host it as a workshop and break into groups using the knowledge and experience in the group to come up with some clear actions and a joined up approach on the way forward.

We will need a Project Leader from each group who will present back, flip chart style. We will then, as a complete group, decide on the clear actions moving forward.

10.30       Arrivals and tea/coffee

11.00       Welcome by Chairman - Nick Boyle

11.05
Competition Act 1998 and Enterprise Act 2002

11.10       Group Session One. Attracting School and College leavers to a career in the Civils Distribution and Merchanting sector. (The BMF have a fantastic suite of courses, it is how we best promote and get into this demographic and attract them to our industry). Also retention, how do we keep them?

12.10       Group Session Two. Specification: As a sector we all have a responsibility to promote approved processes and respect specification. How can the manufacturing and distribution arm work better with end clients to ensure that these processes are adopted. Post Grenfell this will be huge and the consequences for non accredited and tested products will be significant. Also, how do we work together to introduce new processes and specifications that adhere to new and improved regulations? Many Local Authorities are set in their ways and stick with old generic processes. How can the BMF help to improve innovation.

13.00       Networking lunch

14.00       Group Session Three. Post Carillion we find ourselves in troubled times with Tier 1 Main Contractors. The irresponsibility and mismanagement of these companies can no longer be tolerated. It has a huge impact on communities, SME Businesses, insurance and has a huge impact on our industry. From the last chain in the link, how can we influence much needed change?

15.00       Debrief and presentations

16.00       Close of workshop

The Forum is a great networking opportunity.  The Forum is restricted to a maximum of 2 people per organisation, with ideally one of them being a Director or Manager.*
