Building Materials Careers

http://www.buildingmaterialscareers.comThe BMF has launched Building Materials Careers, a new, improved website to encourage more people to join the building materials sector by highlighting the wide range of careers available both in merchant and supplier businesses.

The relaunch follows policy research with members who told the BMF they wanted the Federation to help promote the widest possible range of job opportunities in the industry, fostering diversity and inclusion, helping members to recruit a workforce from a wide range of backgrounds and experience.

As part of the BMF’s bold new strategy, attracting and developing talented people in to the industry will continue to be a main strategic goal.

The website - www.buildingmaterialscareers.com - promotes apprenticeships, life-long learning and gives members the opportunity to manage their job advertisements free of charge using the ‘Advertise A Job’ facility. Potential apprentices and employees will then be able to easily locate these roles, using the region, sector and location search filters.

The website features merchant and supplier employees’ video profiles . Each profile explains how they came to work in the materials supply industry and what they like about their specific job. Job seekers will be inspired by the range of career opportunities available to them in the building materials industry, no matter what educational qualifications they achieved at school or university.

Industry Ambassadors

As part of the BMF commitment to attract and develop talented people, we are currently looking to grow our BMF Ambassador network. This is an amazing opportunity for all BMF members to get involved by promoting and showing their passion for this industry.

We currently have 22 passionate people within the industry across the UK who have committed themselves to the Ambassador Programme. Their responsibilities include:

-being a spokesperson for the industry
- sharing their personal testimonials at schools and colleges and
- attending apprenticeship and careers fairs.

Here are some quotes from our Ambassadors attending recent career fairs on behalf of BMF/Building Materials Careers:

“Greeted warmly by teachers and students alike, they were enthusiastic and eager to hear of the many opportunities that the BMF has to offer through the apprenticeship scheme, many came and eagerly took a leaflet to follow up with and it was great to see as many girls interested as the boys, they thanked us for showing them a new career path they were not aware of previously”

Temi Kucuk, Business Development Manager, Artificial Grass

“I received great engagement from both pupils and teachers all showing a keen interest in what is involved in the industry that provides the materials to make the houses they live in. It was clear that they were not fully aware of how an apprenticeship works and this was a great opportunity to discuss the benefits of working in the building materials career industry and the features of an apprenticeship.”

Ashley Connor, Specialist Sales Manager , Ridgeons, part of the Huws Gray Group

“I recently attended the North West Apprentice Show with Paige and Carmen to raise awareness of the Builders Merchant industry and the vast array of careers that school leavers can get into in the industry. The show was well attended and I personally was really surprised at the level of engagement of the young people present and it was great to have some meaningful conversations with passionate people in progressing their career. I was also really enthused at the amount of young women that approached us and showed an interest in the industry – this may have been helped by the fact we had 3 females on the stand at the time! Overall a great day, some good interest and I think we should definitely continue to promote the industry in such a positive way."
Jo Callow, Merchant Sales Support Manager, Knauf Insulation

Ambassadors will also get the opportunity to be featured in local and regional media coverage.
