    Apprenticeship training

The BMF provides training through the apprenticeship programme for employers in England. For companies in Scotland and Wales, matched funding may be available through the BMTT - contact Nina Royle on 07926 465908 for more information.

Our apprenticeship schemes are tailored to the merchant industry and include the latest and most comprehensive introductions to Health & Safety or Customer Care.

    Time effective solutions
Our Assessors deliver the apprenticeship programme on site at regular intervals that suit your business. The BMF will manage the apprenticeship programme, enabling you to manage your business.

    Retention
Employees will be more likely to remain with a company that provides them with proper training and development opportunities and the greater interest in their job that this brings.

    Apprenticeships
This is on average a 6-12 month programme at the end of which candidates will have achieved an NVQ at level 2 plus Key Skills, a technical certificate and ERR.

    Advanced Apprenticeship (MA)
This programme is aimed at preparing your employees for a supervisory position. The target for candidates on the programme is an NVQ at Level 3 and appropriate Key Skills.

    How the programme works
Features of both of these programmes are that:

    • All candidates will have an initial assessment to ensure correct programme choice.
    • They attract Government funding so there are no training and development costs to you.
    • They include industry special training materials for all candidates i.e. MOL module.
    • They include regular monitoring by a qualified BMF Assessor to help your candidate maintain progress.
    • Candidates are assessed by fully-qualified Assessors against national standards. BMF operates as a Centre for City and Guilds to offer a range of NVQs from which your candidates can select.

    These are currently available:

    • Business Administration (Level 2)
    • Business Administration (Level 3)
    • Customer Service (Level 2)
    • Customer Service (Level 3)
    • Logistics Management (Level 3)
    • Management (Level 3)
    • Team Leader (Level 2)
    • Warehousing and Storage (Level 2)

    Who is eligible?
Apprenticeships are intended for any employee, and are subject to eligibility and funding availability.

    Institute of Builders Merchants
All students who have achieved their Level 2 or Level 3 apprenticeship with the BMF are offered Student or Associate Membership of the Institute at reduced membership prices.

The BMF Apprenticeship is often the first route for an individual to gain relevant and nationally recognised qualifications and this is now being supported by the IoBM to help professionalise the industry and to promote training and development.
