The BMF Diploma In Merchanting qualification is hitting the spot for three up-and-coming managers at Kellaway, the Bristol-based chain.
Mike Nash, Damien Hoy and Paul Roze all received their Module 3 certificates from BMF managing director Chris Pateman last month, at the in-house training centre in Kellaway's Luckwell Road depot.
As management tutor Richard Green took the group through the revision seminar for their next Module, they spoke about what doing the course meant to them as managers. “This pattern of working through the work-books and then coming to a seminar works really well,” said one. “You can take the notes home with you or work on them in the evenings, but this seminar is where the information really sticks in your head.
“Probably the biggest thing you learn is that you actually know a lot. It’s only when you see it written down that you realise how much you have already learned within the business, just from doing your job.”
The BMF Diploma In Merchanting is the industry-standard qualification for merchant managers. The nine modules cover everything from managing staff to managing finances. They are all designed to be studied at the student’s own pace, although most individuals typically allow two months to work through each module before attending a one day consolidation tutorial.
